About

Siri Amrit Khalsa_Empowering Birth_ Doula, postpartum care, kraamzorg and kraamzorg traing
My Philosophy

As a doula my aim is to support the well-being of both mother and baby as well as the family unit as a whole. I recognize the sacred journey of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, and offer compassionate care that honours the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the mother during this transformative time.

My wish it to co-create a supportive and nurturing environment where the parents feel empowered, heard, and respected. This involves providing continuous emotional support, advocating for informed decision-making, and offering practical assistance throughout your journey. As a postpartum doula and a kraamzorg I see it as my role to ‘mother the mother’ supporting you and your partner as you find your way as new parents.

Biography

Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on the 8th of November 1979. I grew up between Amsterdam, the Alps in the South of France and India. Amsterdam has been a constant in my life and I currently reside just outside Amsterdam in a town called Uithoorn.

My studies in Cultural Anthropology and my love of travel brought me to Mexico where I met the love of my life in 2001.

As I come from a multicultural background, I grew up speaking English (my father is Canadian), Dutch, French and understanding a little Hebrew. As a young adult I also learnt how to speak Spanish (fluently) and German (quite well).

Siri Amrit Khalsa

Ever since I can remember I have felt wonder and deep trust in the process of pregnancy, birth and motherhood. I grew up in a spiritual community where pregnancy and birth were considered a natural yet sacred experience in a woman’s life. My mother and other women around me gave birth naturally, at home, and were cared for during the 40 days after birth by a woman from the community. This is where my deep rooted belief that everything we need is already inside of us was born and it is my wish to support women and their families on their journey to rediscover this natural wisdom.

"My wish is to support women on their journey of empowerment, to live these magical moments in their life as a potentially transformational process."

My own journey began with the pregnancy and birth of my first son in 2006. This planted the seed for the work I do today. Over the years, I have become a birth doula and later a postpartum doula and a kraamzorg (maternity care provider) caring for families from pregnancy through the first 40 days. I am a certified pregnancy and post-natal yoga instructor as well as a dance and voice instructor. All of this together forms the basis of my work in supporting women and their families in having a powerful experience.

I believe the most important thing you can do for yourself during pregnancy, birth and parenthood is to take responsibility for your own process. My wish is to support parents on their journey as they learn what is the right way for them.

Parallel to my work with families (to be), I offer professional training for doula’s and kraamzorg.

I have three children – the lights of my life and my greatest teachers! Two boys (2006 and 2011) and a girl (2015).

In 2008 I embarked on my journey to become a certified Doula after completing the Doula  training in Utrecht, The Netherlands where I received my certification in 2009.

I have had the pleasure of deepening my doula skills with inspiring women such as: Midwife, JJ Doula Training, TCM practitioner Jacky Bloemraad- de Boer, Ina-May Gaskin (Pioneer midwife and author), Debra Pascali-Bonaro (Doula trainer, Film-maker Orgasmic Birth) and Barbara Harper (Water Birth International).

In 2011 I had the honour of following the Yoga-Doula training with my wise mother Gurujagat Kaur Ronen and certified as a Kundalini Yoga Pregnancy and Postpartum teacher.

In 2012 I found my joy with Dancing for Birth from founder Stephanie Larson and became a Certified Instructor. In 2013 I became a trainer able to teach the benefits and joy of dance to others wishing to integrate these beautiful tools into their work. I went on to create my own training to offer an in depth dive into the benefits of dance, intuitive movement, song and voice work to support women during pregnancy and birth.

Until the Pandemic hit in 2020, I divided my time with supporting families during birth and postpartum at home in the Netherlands and traveling throughout Europe to teach as part of the Yoga Doula School and the Postpartum Support Network as well as my own Empowering Birth Training.

As the pandemic started and travel became impossible, I trained as a Kraamzorg (maternity care provider for the first 8-10 days after birth) and integrated this into my work with families.

Since 2022 I have been mentoring Kraamzorg students to work in the field as Holisitic Kraamzorg. And now with a group of my students we are starting the Holistisch kraamcollectief!
